Brian Young

I make art for a number of reasons to do with self-satisfaction, giving others pleasure, achieving goals and hitting (perhaps by luck) upon something worthwhile.
Pastels (both hard and soft) are my chosen medium, and the important considerations when making a painting are composition, tone and (especially for me) colour. I don’t try to imitate nature - rather to improve on what might otherwise be a photographic image.
My paintings are begun in the landscape mainly using a square format, then finished in the studio.
