For me, making art is a challenge to interpret the various aspects of the Tasmanian landscape using a combination of hard and soft pastels, with special emphasis on composition and colour relationships.  I favour the square format and each piece of work is begun en plain air to establish the overall composition. Occasionally I finish the work onsite, but in most cases it is completed back in the studio where I can give more thought to tone and colour relationships.  Spray fixative is only used during the build-up of each piece.
