Images of Tasmania

I work in dry pastel, both hard and soft and often in combination.

My paintings are usually in square format, begun on site in the landscape, where I establish composition and tone; then completed for colour and texture back home in the studio.

Spray fixative is helpful during the build-up of the work, but never on the completed work as I feel that it dulls the colour.

My aim is not to reproduce nature but to use nature’s qualities and suggestions as a basis for my work.
