Frances Malcomson

Through my unique state mono prints, I unveil the plant species that grow untended in neighbourhood fringe urban sites. In bringing to notice the flourishing adaptations of overlooked nature, I question our perceptions of what is valued in nature. Through exploiting the immediacy of direct printing methodologies, indexical markings of the inked plants are compressed into papers. Structural forms are preserved and revealed, details traced, shadowed imagery layers and scatters. The plants’ fragile beauty is carried in lightweight paper supports; their presence expanded through the generous scale of each diptych, underlined by the traversal of imagery from paper to paper.
