Frances Malcomson
I am a contemporary Nipaluna/Hobart-based botanical artist, working through printmaking-led investigations to explore adaptive plant presence within local urban sites. In creating each unique state monoprint through inking and imprinting directly with the plants, I reference historic herbarium-based nature printing. Through multi-layered repetitions of printing and over-printing, I develop methodologies to commentate adaptive and vulnerable plant presence.
In Wild/flower Garden I-V, I have offset a cultivated garden flower against a faded background of local weed species. Evans Street Garden I-IV is about the urban garden of Red Square, which will cease to be should the proposed football stadium be built.
