Kim Neave
I am a Hobart based designer/maker of contemporary bespoke furniture, designed and crafted to last for generations. Through reverence, prudent use of materials and quality of craftsmanship, I intend to celebrate the inherent beauty of native timbers. Working predominantly with Tasmanian and other special mainland timbers, they at times, are combined with glass, metalwork, local stone, fabric and other components.
The emphasis of my practice is the creation of high quality, functional objects that are aesthetically beautiful, innovative and creative in function and form. My work celebrates the haptic experience of wood: it’s tactility, chatoyance, pattern or grain. Inviting a slowdown, to a deeper level of reconnection with the material's source – nature. My work is a call to feel and reflect – a handmade antidote to the increasingly artificial aspects of modern life.
