TIM WALLER (1937 – 2017)

We mourn the loss of a very fine painter and art educator who was an original member of Images of Tasmania. Tim lectured at the School of Art here in the 60s and for many years at the South Australian School of Art. Never  abandoning his love of Tasmania he returned regularly to paint his beloved countryside. A painter’s painter, Tim’s participation in Images will be sorely missed.

His Images 18 entry in the artists’ booklet is a beautiful reminder of the mind and heart of an exceptional man:

Appreciating and making art has, for me, been a lifelong passion. It intensifies our response to the world and especially the interaction between nature and human beings. In more complex and subtle ways though, access to the broad history of art and reflection on personal practice yield those deeply rewarding, fundamental experiences – like the sensual pleasure of mixing colours and assembling and adjusting coloured marks in luscious oil paint. Never mind the subject, feel the process.
