Helen Bridgland
In 1990, I changed from painting with water colours to water colour oils, because I wanted to hang some work in a sunlit room. I loved the media and never looked back.
We spend many leisurely hours boating in the S. E. of Tasmania and that is where I get most of my inspiration to paint and sketch.
The use of a limited palette- ten colours only develops good mixing skills. I look for strong colour or a dramatic tonal change (shadows and sunlit areas).
I love the plain air challenge and carry everything compact and light,-(small boards ,paper palettes, few brushes and paint tubes), which is necessary when on a boat or going ashore in a tender.
