Learning to appreciate is such a wonderful gift. If you can explain the experience to others, the sharing will enhance it further and other people’s perspectives can take you into entirely different ways of looking, seeing, hearing. If you aspire to any kind of visual literacy, the best advice is to spend time looking. You can never hone your appreciation skills with a 17 second glimpse. Decades of teaching and making art have taught me that appreciation takes you to realms of feeling and rich sensory response. It begins with SLOW contemplative looking.
